Charles & Eddie
Charles & Eddie was an American solo duo from New York . It consisted of Charles Pettigrew (born May 12, 1963 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † April 6, 2001 ibid) and Eddie Chacon (born August 22, 1963 in Oakland , California ).
Career
Charles Pettigrew had studied jazz singing in Boston and played with a band called Down Avenue. In the early 1990s he met Eddie Chacon in New York. Because of their mutual love for soul music, they both decided to form a duo à la Sam and Dave . Her first single, Would I Lie to You , became a worldwide hit in 1992 and reached number 1 in Germany , Austria and Great Britain , among others . In Switzerland the song reached number 2 and in the USA number 13. With the follow-up singles NYC (Can You Believe This City) , House Is Not a Home and 24-7-365 , they were able to make their way into the top at least in Europe until 1995 40 hold. The album Duophonic was also a small success, but they never managed to become a big hit.
Then Charles & Eddie separated again. Pettigrew worked with artists such as Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz and joined the Tom Tom Club in 1998 . He can be heard on their album The Good, the Bad and the Funky . Shortly afterwards, he developed cancer and died on April 6, 2001 at the age of 37.
