Mertens took her first steps as a singer in a music group called "Secret Fantasy". However, her breakthrough came with the dance formation Milk Inc. In mid-2000, Mertens visited the club “Illusion” (a well-known discotheque in Lier ) and asked the resident DJ Regi Penxten if he wasn't a singer for one of his projects would need. Little did Mertens know that Regi was looking for a new singer for Milk Inc. After some tests, she was selected as the new singer. Not least because of her fame as the singer of Milk Inc., she posed several times for the Belgian men's magazine P-Magazine .

In April 2004 Mertens was involved in a serious traffic accident: She collided head-on with another car; the driver of the other car died a little later from his injuries. In the subsequent legal proceedings, she was awarded responsibility for the accident. She also had to pay € 30,000 in damages.

At the end of May 2014 it became known that Mertens was expecting her first child from her boyfriend, who was six years her junior, at the end of November 2014.
