The Melodifestivalen 2012 was the Swedish preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku ( Azerbaijan ). It was the 52nd edition of the competition organized by the Swedish broadcaster SVT . Overall, the competition lasted from February 4, 2012 to March 10, 2012.

The competition was won by Loreen with her song Euphoria , which was written by Thomas G: son and Peter Boström. In the end, Sweden won the Eurovision Song Contest 2012.

For the eleventh time, the semi-finals took place in different locations in Sweden. There were 32 entries, which were divided into four semifinals, so that eight entries were presented per semifinals. The audience decided in two voting rounds who qualified for the final and who was allowed to compete again in the Andra Chansen (German: Second Chance). In each semi-final, the first two entries with the most audience votes qualified directly for the final. Those contributions that took third and fourth place appeared a second time on the Andra Chansen program .

In Andra Chansen , all eight participants competed against each other in four duels. Unlike from 2007 to 2011, SVT only determined the duels shortly before the Andra Chansen broadcast. The four winners of the duels then competed against each other again in two duels. The two winners then received the last two final tickets.

In the final, which has been taking place at the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm since 2002 , ten participants appeared. It was the last time the final took place at the Ericsson Globe.

The winner of the Swedish preliminary decision: Loreen

The finals ( finals ) took place 10 March 2012 at 20:00 ( CET ) at the Globen in Stockholm instead. In 2012 the final of the Melodifestival took place for the last time in the Globen. The final has been held in the Friends Arena in Solna since 2013 . Loreen won both the jury and the televoting.
