The Melodifestivalen 2013 was the Swedish preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö ( Sweden ). It was the 53rd edition of the competition organized by the Swedish broadcaster SVT . Overall, the competition lasted from February 2, 2013 to March 9, 2013.

The competition was won by Robin Stjernberg with his song You , which was written by Stjernberg himself, Linnea Deb, Joy Deb and Joakim Harestad Haukaa. It was unusual that Stjernberg was able to win the competition, whereby he only had to survive the second round of Andra Chansen before he could reach the final. It was the first time that a participant from Andra Chansen could win the Melodifestivalen.

For the twelfth time, the semi-finals took place in different locations in Sweden. There were 32 entries, which were divided into four semifinals, so that eight entries were presented per semifinals. The audience decided in two voting rounds who qualified for the final and who was allowed to compete again in the Andra Chansen (German: Second Chance). In each semi-final, the first two entries with the most audience votes qualified directly for the final. Those contributions that took third and fourth place appeared a second time on the Andra Chansen program .

Andra Chansen received a new format in 2013. Now the participants competed against each other in two voting rounds. After a first round of voting, two duels were determined. The winner of the respective duel was then allowed to move into the final.

In the final, which for the first time since 2002 did not take place in the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm , but in the newly built Friends Arena , which is also located in Stockholm, ten participants appeared.
