Jay-Jay Johanson
Jay-Jay Johanson (* 11. October 1969 in Trollhättan as Jäje Johansson ) is a Swedish musician , singer and composer . His music, which is mainly characterized by Johanson's melancholy lyrics, was initially based mainly on the genre trip-hop .
Life
After the first demo recordings had been made in November 1994, Jay-Jay Johanson released his debut Whiskey in August 1996 , the sound of which was characterized by jazzy singing and bizarre film noir arrangements. In 1998 the successor Tattoo appeared .
Johanson's third album Poison was released in April 2000 and entered the French charts at number four. It also included contributions from Cocteau Twins founder and guitarist Robin Guthrie . In the same year Johanson composed the soundtrack for the film La confusion des genre by the French director Ilan Cohen . The following year Jay-Jay Johanson appeared with the sound-image installation Cosmodrome , which was presented to the public for the first time in Dijon . This work of art traveled around the world and was last shown at the Musée d'art modern in Paris .
With the album Antenna , which was created in collaboration with the German IDM artists Funkstören , Johanson took a new musical direction in 2002 and turned to electroclash . In 2004, under the title Prologue, a compilation of Johanson's previous work was published, which was aimed at the American market. In 2005 the album Rush followed , which was partly produced by the French producer Jean-Pierre Ensuque .
In the spring of 2006 Jay-Jay Johanson gathered the musicians with whom he had worked on the first three releases. With the resulting album The Long Term Physical Effects Are Not Yet Known , Johanson returned in 2007 to his characteristic sound. The subsequent tour started in China and led through 30 cities worldwide.
