Gerhard Günther (born December 29, 1955 in Rathenow ; † April 26, 2015 ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and from 2004 to 2014 a member of the Thuringian state parliament .

Career

Günther worked as a car mechanic from 1974 to 1993 and then worked in public administration. From 1994 to 2001 he was honorary 1st councilor of the city of Königsee , then from 2001 to 2004 2nd district councilor of the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district and head of the youth, social affairs and health department.

In the 2004 state elections , Günther was elected to the Thuringian state parliament. He was also district chairman and state chairman of the KPV Saalfeld-Rudolstadt, district board member of the CDU, district councilor and member of the district council.

In 2009 Günther was diagnosed with a serious lung disease. At the end of 2011 he had to undergo a lung transplant and was then in a coma for several weeks. After his health deteriorated again since autumn 2013, he decided not to run again in the 2014 state election after ten years. Gerhard Günther died on April 26, 2015 at the age of 59.

Günther has been President of the DRK regional association of Thuringia since 2008 .
