Guri Ingebrigtsen

Guri Ingebrigtsen (born May 19, 1952 in Værøy ; † January 5, 2020 ) was a Norwegian politician of the Social Democratic Workers' Party (Ap). She was the Minister of Social Affairs in the Jens Stoltenberg I government .

Life

Ingebrigtsen is the daughter of the engineer Gunvald Ingebrigtsen and the housewife Helene Tennes. After graduating from school in 1972, she worked as a teacher until 1974 and then as a nursing assistant in a hospital until 1975. From 1975 to 1976 she studied criminology at the University of Oslo . She then studied medicine until 1982 . From 1983 she worked as a doctor in various positions. For example, in 1986 she was also involved as a medic on a mission in Afghanistan . From 1987 to 1996 she worked as a researcher at the University of Oslo.

Ingebrigtsen was a member of Vestvågøy's local parliament from 1995 to 2000 and from 2003 to 2007 . In the period from 1999 to 2000 she was the mayor of the municipality.

Between February 1996 and October 1997 she worked as a political advisor on social issues in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. On March 17, 2000 she was appointed Minister of Social Affairs under Jens Stoltenberg . She held this office until the end of the government in October 2001.

In 2011 Ingebrigtsen was diagnosed with incurable cancer, which she also discussed in public. She succumbed to the disease in early January 2020.
