Jørgen Hårek Kosmo (born December 5, 1947 in Fauske ; † July 24, 2017 ) was a Norwegian politician of the Labor Party (Ap). He was the defense minister from 1993 to 1997 and the labor minister from 2000 to 2001. From 2001 to 2005 he was the President of the Norwegian Parliament.

Political career

mayor

Kosmo was a member of the Horten City Council from 1975 to 1985 . He was deputy mayor between 1979 and 1983 and then the city's first mayor until 1985.

Storting MP

Kosmo first moved into the Norwegian Parliament, the Storting , in 1985 . There he continuously represented the province of Vestfold until 2005 . From 1989 to 1993 he was the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, from 1997 to 2000 that of the Control and Constitutional Committee and from 2001 to 2005 that of the Electoral Committee. Between 1990 and 1993, 1997 and 2000 and between 2001 and 2005 he was a member of the parliamentary committee of the Ap.

From October 2001 to September 2005 he was President of Parliament. On July 2, 2004 he was appointed Fylkesmann in Telemark with effect from autumn 2005 . However, it did not occur to the office, but took over in 2006 as chairman of the Budget Review Commission of the Parliament ( Riksrevisjonen ). His term of office ran until December 31, 2013.

minister

Kosmo was Norwegian Defense Minister from April 1993 to October 1997 . Between March 2000 and October 2001 he held the office of Minister of Labor and Administration in the Jens Stoltenberg I government .

Private

Kosmo worked as a construction worker in Horten from 1969 to 1979 . He died in July 2017 after a long illness.
