Tove Strand (born September 29, 1946 in Kongsvinger ; temporarily Tove Strand Gerhardsen) is a Norwegian politician of the Arbeiderpartiet (Ap). She was the minister of her country from 1986 to 1992.

Life

Strand studied economics at the University of Oslo until 1971 . She was a member of Oslo City Council between 1971 and 1975 and between 1987 and 1991 . From 1971 to 1976 she worked as a clerk in the Norwegian Ministry of Finance . In 1976 she worked as a personal secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Shipping. Between 1978 and 1979 she was an office manager in the Ministry of Consumers and Administration. In 1979 she was again personal secretary, this time at the Treasury. Later - from February to October 1981 - she served as State Secretary in this ministry. She then returned to her work as an office manager in the Ministry of Consumers and Administration until 1982. Afterwards she was head of department at Rikshospitalet in Oslo until 1986.

On May 9, 1986, she was appointed Minister of Social Affairs, which she remained until October 16, 1989. She then became a project manager at the BI Norwegian Business School . In the Brundtland III government , she served as Minister of Labor and Administration between November 3, 1990 and September 4, 1992.

She then returned to the business school as a special advisor. From 1993 to 1996 she was Head of Environment, Development and Research in the Norwegian Research Council. Between 1993 and 1994 she was also vice-president of the Social Democrats mot EU , an internal party group of EU opponents. From 1994 to 1999 she was Vice President of the Norwegian Sports Federation NIF . In 1997 she became head of Norad , a development cooperation agency, before becoming head of Ullevål University Hospital in 2005 .

Private

Tove Strand was married to the sports official and politician Rune Gerhardsen and was called Tove Strand Gerhardsen during this marriage. The two have two children, Mina and Marte Gerhardsen, who are also active in Norwegian politics.
