Hallvard Bakke

Hallvard Bakke (born February 4, 1943 in Flesberg ) is a Norwegian journalist and politician of the Arbeiderpartiet (Ap). From 1976 to 1979 he was the Minister of Commerce and Shipping and from 1986 to 1989 the Minister of Culture and Science of his country.

education and profession

Bakke studied economics at the Norwegian Business School until 1968 . In 1968 he worked as a journalist at Bergens Arbeiderblad (today: Bergensavisen ). He then took up a position at the Den Nationale Scene theater in Bergen , where he worked as chief financial officer until 1976.

From 1998 to 2005 he worked as a commentator for the national newspaper Dagsavisen and then at the left newspaper class Kampen and Bergensavisen.

Political career

Bakke was a city councilor in Bergen from 1967 to 1976. He first moved into the Norwegian Parliament, the Storting , in 1977 . There he continuously represented the province of Hordaland until 1997 . From 1981 to 1986 he was deputy chairman of the Odelsting . Between 1993 and 1997 he was also a member of the Ap. In 1997 he did not stand in the parliamentary elections at his own request. From 1974 to 1976 and from 1981 to 1984 he was chairman of his party in Hordaland.

On January 15, 1976, Bakke was appointed Minister of Commerce and Shipping in the Nordli government. He held the office until October 8, 1979. On May 9, 1986, he became Minister of Culture and Science in the Brundtland II government , which he remained until the end of the government on October 16, 1989.

Political positions

Bakke belongs to the left wing of his party. He rejected Norway's accession to the European Union and was the leader of the EU opponents in his party, which was divided on this issue.
