Arne Øien

Arne Øien (born December 22, 1928 in Oslo ; † October 5, 1998 ibid) was a Norwegian politician of the Arbeiderpartiet (Ap). He was his country's oil and energy minister from 1986 to 1989 .

Life

Øien completed his economics degree in 1954. He then worked as an office manager at Statistisk sentralbyrå (SSB) until 1966 , before working there as a researcher until 1968. Between 1966 and 1967 he also worked as an economic advisor for the provincial government in East Pakistan . From 1969 to 1970 he was acting head of department at the SSB.

From 1971 to 1978 he worked as a department head in the Norwegian Ministry of Finance, after which he worked there until 1980 as an economic advisor. He then returned to the SSB, where he became administrative director.

Between February and October 1981 he was the State Secretary in the Office of the State Minister. After this term of office he took over the post of administrative director in the statistical office again until 1986. On May 9, 1986, he was appointed Minister for Oil and Energy in the Brundtland II government. He held the office until October 16, 1989 and then returned to the SSB. From 1990 to 1995 he was the highest official ( Finansråd ) in the Ministry of Finance .

In 1998 he succumbed to cancer .
