Vesla Vetlesen

Vesla Gunvor Vetlesen (born October 19, 1930 in Farsund ) is a Norwegian politician of the Arbeiderpartiet (Ap). She was development aid minister from 1986 to 1988.

education and profession

Between 1950 and 1954 she trained in textile design. Then she worked as a weaver, from 1960 she was self-employed. Between 1968 and 1970 she taught her profession in Uganda . After her return she worked as a journalist for the European Movement International before she taught again from 1972 to 1974.

Between 1973 and 1975 she worked at Redd Barna , a Norwegian children's aid organization. She then worked for the humanitarian organization Norsk Folkehjelp until 1980 . She then worked until 1994, with one interruption from 1986 to 1988, as a clerk at the Landsorganisasjonen i Norge (LO) union .

Vetlesen was appointed Minister for Development Aid in the Brundtland II government on May 9, 1986 . She held the office until June 13, 1988. Between 1974 and 2005 she published various books dealing, among other things, with development aid and botany.
