Gunhild Øyangen

Gunhild Elise Øyangen (born October 31, 1947 in Levanger ) is a Norwegian politician of the Social Democratic Workers' Party (Ap). She was her country's agriculture minister for about nine years.

education and profession

Gunhild Øyangen worked as a teacher at various schools from 1972 to 1981. In 1981 she started working on her parents' farm in Agdenes .

Political career

Øyangen was from 1983 to 1987 a member of the Fylkesting of the then Sør-Trøndelag province . It moved into the Norwegian Parliament, the Storting , for the first time in 1989 . There she represented Sør-Trøndelag until 2005. From October 1996 to September 1997 she headed the Social Committee. Between 1996 and 2001 she was a member of the Ap.

On May 9, 1986, she was appointed Minister of Agriculture. She initially held this office until the end of the Brundtland II government on October 16, 1989. From November 3, 1990, she again took over the post in the government of Brundtland III . She remained in office until October 25, 1996. During her time as minister, she fought for Norway to join the European Union .

For the legislative period from 2017 to 2021, she is the so-called Vararepresentantin in Storting, i.e. a member of parliament who would step in if someone else from her party drops out.
