Kari Gjesteby

Kari Gjesteby (born May 16, 1947 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian politician of the Arbeiderpartiet (Ap). She was Minister of Commerce in 1981 and Minister of Justice from 1990 to 1992.

Life

Gjesteby attended the commercial high school in Oslo from 1962 to 1965. Between 1967 and 1970 she studied economics at the Norwegian Business School (NHH) in Bergen .

From 1992 to 1974 she worked as a consultant in the municipal and labor ministries. In 1974 Gjesteby worked as a political secretary in the consumer and administration ministries. In January 1976 she took over the post of State Secretary in the Ministry of Churches and Education, which she held until January 1978. In October 1979 she was again Secretary of State until February 1981, this time in the Ministry of Finance . On February 4, 1981, she was appointed Minister in the Ministry of Commerce and Shipping in the Brundtland I government, which only existed until October 14, 1981. From May 1986 to May 1988 she worked again as State Secretary in the Foreign Ministry. On November 3, 1990, she was appointed Minister of Justice. She held the office until September 4, 1992.

From 2009 to 2013 she was the so-called Riksmeklerin , i.e. the arbitrator appointed by the state in collective bargaining.
