Arne Nilsen

Arne Nilsen (born January 21, 1924 in Bergen - † April 16, 2020 in Voss ) was a Norwegian politician of the Arbeiderpartiet (Ap). From 1978 to 1979 he was the municipal and labor minister and then until 1981 the social minister of his country.

education and profession

In 1945 Nilsen graduated from the railway school. He then worked as a telegraph operator for the railway company Norges Statsbaner (NSB) until 1960 . Overall, he worked for this company until 1965.

Political career

In 1951, Nilsen entered the local parliament of Voss for the first time , where he sat until 1967. Between 1959 and 1963 he was the mayor of the municipality and also a member of the Fylkesting of what was then the province of Hordaland . Nilsen was a member of the Norwegian national parliament, the Storting , from 1965 to 1985 . There he represented the constituency of Hordaland. During this time, between 1973 and 1976, he was chairman of the committee for municipalities and environmental protection. He then headed the Finance Committee until 1978.

On January 11, 1978 he was appointed local minister and labor minister in the Nordli government. He held the office until October 8, 1979 and then moved to the Ministry of Social Affairs. He also remained in the Brundtland I government, his country's social minister. His term of office ended on October 14, 1981 with the resignation of the government. From October 1981 to September 1985 he was President of the Odelsting , which at that time was one of the two houses of Parliament.
