Ulf Sand

Ulf Oscar Sand (born May 22, 1938 in Bærum ; † December 29, 2014 ) was a Norwegian politician of the Arbeiderpartiet (Ap). From 1979 to 1981 he was the finance minister of his country.

Life

Sand studied from 1959 to 1963 social economics at the University of Oslo , in 1960 he was chairman of the student union of the Arbeiderpartiet. From 1964 to 1969 he was a member of the board of the youth organization Arbeidernes Ungdomsfylking (AUF). Between 1964 and 1966 he worked in the planning department of the Norwegian Ministry of Finance before joining the Landsorganisasjonen i Norge (LO) union. There he was employed as an economist until 1971. In the legislative period, which lasted from 1967 to 1971, he was a member of Bærum City Council.

On March 19, 1971, Sand became State Secretary in the Ministry of Wages and Prices. In May 1972 he moved to the Ministry of Consumers and Administration, where he served as State Secretary until October 10, 1977, with a one-year break between October 1972 and October 1973. He then became the head of the LO's economic department. On October 8, 1979 he was appointed finance minister in the Nordli government and he continued to hold office in the Brundtland I government until October 14, 1981.

Sand then returned to his post as head of the LO's economics department until 1983. After that he was head of Statens lånekasse for utdanning , the Norwegian authority responsible for distributing student grants , until 1986 . Subsequently, he was the top official in the municipal and labor ministries until 2003.
