Madball was founded in 1988 by Freddy Cricien, who was only twelve years old at the time. In the initial line-up, the former members of Agnostic Front played the other roles: Roger Miret became bassist, Vinnie Stigma , the guitarist of Agnostic Front, also took on this role at Madball and the drums were occupied by Will Shepler, who is also at Agnostic Front played this instrument. In the beginning the band mainly played material from the big sister band and was only active regionally.

A year after their founding, the band released their first EP entitled Ball of Destruction . After a second guitarist joined the band with Matt Henderson, the second EP was released in 1992 with Droppin 'Many Suckers .

The following year Roger Miret left the band and was replaced by Jorge Guerra. The band's first album, Set It Off , was released in 1994 on Roadrunner Records with this new line-up , followed by the album Demonstrating My Style in 1996 . During this time, the band increasingly established itself in the New York hardcore scene and became one of its permanent fixtures. In the 1995/1996 produced and released 1999 documentary NYHC about New York Hardcore worked a. a. also Madball with. And after another line-up change (John Lafatta replaced Walter Ryan on drums, who himself had in the meantime stepped in for Will Shepler), the next album, Look My Way, was released in 1998 .

After releasing another album entitled Hold It Down in 2000 - this time on Epitaph Records - the band took a break of several months in 2001/2002. Then the line-up was changed again: Mitts (previously with Skarhead ) took over the guitar and Rigg Ross (previously with Hatebreed ) played the drums. In this constellation, the band released the albums Legacy (2005, Ferret Music / Roadrunner Records) and Infiltrate the System (2007, Ferret Music / I Scream Records ), the EP NYHC in 2004 and the compilation The Best of Madball in 2003 .

In 2009 Rigg Ross moved to Skarhead, which is why the drums had to be changed again. Ben Dussault took over this role but was soon replaced by Jay Weinberg . The album Empire , released in October 2010 on Good Fight Music and Nuclear Blast , was recorded with this line-up. In September, before the album was released, Weinberg was fired due to personal conflicts and replaced by Igor Wouters from Born from Pain . Mike Justian (ex- Unearth ), who toured with the band since 2011, has been a permanent member of the drums since 2012 .

In June 2012, Rebellion, the band's latest EP was initially available as a download. A version on record followed in the fall. The album Hardcore Lives was released in 2014. In October 2017 guitarist Brian Daniels left the band after 16 years. In 2018 the next album For the Cause was released .
