The Warriors are an American hardcore punk band from Tehachapi , California that was formed in 2002.

history

The band was founded in 2002 by high school friends Marshall Lichtenwaldt (vocals), guitarists Javier Zarate and Danny Phillips as well as his brother Donny (drums) and bassist Mike Preisendorfer. After leaving high school, some members made plans to attend college , which nearly broke up the band. However, this did not happen, whereupon the band signed a contract with Eulogy Recordings after they had already signed the single Family Matters with Straight on Records in 2003. In 2004, Eulogy Recordings released their debut album War Is Hell . At the beginning of 2005 a tour through North America followed together with Reflux , Calico System and Deadsoil . In March, the band held performances with The Judas Cradle . In July the band went on tour through Canada with Comeback Kid , before appearing on the west coast of the United States with Turmoil , Set Your Goals and Wait in the Van in September . After that, work began on the next album, which was finished in spring 2006. Before the release of the album Beyond the Noise at the end of June, from which about 30,000 units were to be sold, the band held concerts together with Blacklisted and Embrace the End . After the album was released, other appearances followed with Nodes of Ranvier . After that, the Phillips brothers left the line-up, after which guitarist Dave Priest and drummer Matt Anderson joined the band. The band then signed a contract with Victory Records in September 2006 . In December, the band held performances with Throwdown and All Shall Perish , before concerts of Terror and War of Ages followed. In early 2007 the band went back to the studio to record their next album. Guest musicians were Andrew Neufeld from Comeback Kid, Lou Koller from Sick of It All and Lemmy Kilmister from Motörhead . Genuine Sense of Outrage was released in Europe in early September , after which the band held concerts with Her Nightmare and No Apologies . The band now consisted of Lichtenwaldt and Zarate, guitarist Charlie Alvarez, bassist Roger Camero and drummer Matt Anderson. In 2011, See How You Are, the next album on Victory Records.

style

According to laut.de , War Is Hell was partly comparable to groups like Sick of It All , Madball and Rage Against the Machine . Armin Weber from Metal Hammer heard strong Metalcore influences on the album and pointed out bands such as Converge and Integrity , "which are somehow Metalcore too, but break out of this structure again and again through extreme style breaks". Above all, one can recognize this in the singing, which sometimes sounds atypical of the genre and also often overturns.

Elmar Salmutter from Metal Hammer assigned Beyond the Noise to the hardcore punk of the 1990s and compared the band to groups like Sick of It All, 108 and Inside Out .

According to Christian Kruse from Metal Hammer have the songs in Genuine Sense of Outrage some unusual song structures, where even "shouting with Hip Hop - Beats " would be combined, "without the something here with Crossover had to do." The band is based on the New School Hardcore of the 1990s, comparable to bands like Refused , Snapcase and Strife .

Dominik Winter wrote in Metal Hammer that the album See How You Are is reminiscent of bands like Snapcase and Parkway Drive . Due to the shouting and the speed of the songs, which are mostly in the mid-tempo range, the band often reminds me of the Earth Crisis album Breed the Killers . In songs like The War Unseen you can also hear licks that are reminiscent of Slayer , while the groove in Seize the Fire is reminiscent of Entombed and Rage Against the Machine.
