Snapcase was founded in 1991, American hardcore punk - band from Buffalo .
style
Snapcase went through a similar musical development as Refused : As a band with roots in hardcore , they expanded their spectrum. Critics recognized the influences of Tool or At the Drive-In on their last regular album End Transmission . The band named the latter, alongside Refused, Quicksand , Fugazi and the Deftones , as role models and influences.
The members of Snapcase belonged to the straight-edge scene, but unlike similar bands, this hardly affected their lyrics as they didn't want to "preach". Social criticism and revolutionary ideas , however, were among the defining themes of the group.
history
Snapcase was founded in 1991. Her first publication followed a year later, Comatose . In 1993 they recorded a first album with Lookinglasself , which was released in 1993 after signing a contract with Victory Records (where all other albums were also released). Six of the nine tracks on this album were produced by Don Fury , a legendary hardcore producer from New York who had recorded albums by Quicksand , Youth of Today , Agnostic Front and the Gorilla Biscuits , among others . By February 1994 about 30,000 copies of the album had been sold.
Steve Evetts ( The Cure , The Dillinger Escape Plan , Sepultura ) took over the production of the second album, Progression Through Unlearning , as did Designs for Automotion (2000) . In between one appeared split -Single with boysetsfire , the three of them together bands composed pieces as well as The Police - Cover Truth Hits Everybody contained.
After a change of drummer Snapcase brought two works out: End Transmission (recorded with Brian McTernan , the tribe producers of Hot Water Music , Thrice and Texas Is the Reason ) and Bright Flashes on which pieces were used during the recording of End Transmission , but did not fit into the concept. There are also three new versions of End Transmission songs as well as cover versions of Helmet (band) , Devo and Jane's Addiction pieces.
Snapcase played the Warped Tour several times and went on tour with the Deftones and Papa Roach , among others . The band gave their last concert on January 22nd, 2005 in Buffalo .
In April 2010 Snapcase planned to come back to Germany for some shows, but had to postpone the tour due to the flight ban. The appearances were made up from June 30th to July 5th 2010, including at the Devil Side Festival in Essen. The band has not yet commented on whether there will be a permanent reunion.
In January 2018, Snapcase released what they say was their first new song in 16 years and announced new material at the same time.
