Morning Again is an American hardcore band from Fort Lauderdale ( Florida ), which was active from 1995 to 1999 and reunited of 2010. As "one of the most innovative, original and at the same time most unknown bands in the hardcore scene", Morning Again is considered to be one of the pioneers of a sub-genre that later became known as " Metalcore " and reached a wider audience.
Band history
The Straight Edge band, founded in December 1995 by John Wylie, took a clear position on political issues, opposed any kind of organized religion and openly conveyed their convictions regarding veganism and anti-militarism in their texts .
Morning Again saw itself as a real live band, which was initially on tour in North America in order to bring their textual content closer to the broadest possible audience. As early as 1997, the band was active in Europe as the opening act for Agnostic Front with their singer Kevin Ray Byers, new since the split EP with Shoulder, after their EP Martyr , which was released via Good Life Recordings . A few months later, Morning Again was headlining again in other European countries due to the positive reactions , the band had sold more than 10,000 albums to date and thus aroused the interest of various larger record companies.
In 1998, As Tradition Dies Slowly, the first album on Revelation Records, was released , which was enthusiastically received by both hardcore and extreme metal fans. At this point only John Wylie was left of the original line-up in 1996, and there were a number of changes in all other positions. On the split single with 25 Ta Life (1998) for the song “Dictation of Beauty” you can hear a certain Joseph Lee Simmons on guitar, but shortly afterwards Steve Looker can be found in this position.
Parallel to the dissolution of the band in 1999 due to internal disputes, the last album was released with the compilation The Fallen ... The Few That Remain , before two years later Eulogy Recordings combined the first two EPs, supplemented them with live recordings and the whole thing as hand of the Martyr republished .
Some members of the band were also active in Culture , others left Morning Again for As Friends Rust and Dead Blue Sky . Damien Moyal, the original Shai Hulud vocalist, was initially part of Morning Again.
On December 11th, 2010 the band played their reunion concert in Miami / Florida.
Musical style
Musically, Morning Again relied less on up-tempo , but more on mid-tempo pieces, with the band , which came from the hardcore scene, processed many metal-heavy riffs . The "visionaries with a penchant for the original" varied greatly within the songs, however, and acoustic guitars that played over and over set a counterpoint to the otherwise more aggressive sound.
The debut Hand of Hope , which still has emocore influences, fluctuates between " groove and frenzy" and is, due to the interspersed clear vocals, an above-average complex work for the hardcore. Later, the band paid even more attention to details in their music and built in small melody lines that can be found next to mosh and blast parts.
