Vegan Reich was an American hardcore punk band founded in 1987 in Memphis by singer , guitarist and songwriter Sean Muttaqi. Ideology and controversy

Vegan Reich was highly controversial in the straight edge scene. The scene, which was originally characterized by tolerance , was very critical of the band's militant approaches; parts of the scene viewed it as a betrayal of ideals. Vegan Reich was considered the figurehead of the Californian record label Hardline, which released Vegan Reich in the early 1990s. Critics accused the band and label of combining their militant commitment to animal rights and straight edge with homophobia , intolerance of religions and radical-conservative advocacy against abortion and drugs , and of moving on the edge of right-wing extremism with their demands for discipline and a vegan dictatorship .
