The Traffic Jam Open Air is a rock festival that has been taking place every year since 1999 towards the end of July in Dieburg , Hesse .

history

What emerged from a crazy idea of ​​a birthday party on May 29, 1999 is today one of the largest festivals for harder alternative music in southern Hesse. The main founders are Frank Engelmann, Paul Ryszewski, Martin Völker, Saskia Wenk and Stefan Walter. The four boys were members of the music group Outrage at the time and played melodic punk rock. Today the organizational team consists of more than 10 people, many construction workers and members of the "street team".

The Traffic Jam Open Air is largely financed by volunteers and sponsors, and the newcomer bands that perform usually play for a small fee. In this way, the organizers try to be commercially as independent as possible and to keep the entrance fees low. The music festival, which primarily provides a platform for newcomer bands, has been held annually since 1999. The tenth TrafficJam took place in 2008, after which the festival paused for a year. In 2010 the popular festival in southern Hesse was back with the most international lineup in its history and with 25 bands the largest.

The music of the bands performing can be assigned to the genre alternative . In particular, the directions Hardcore Punk , Metalcore , Metal , Ska and Punk are covered.

Visitors

Most of the open air visitors come from the local area. Nevertheless, thanks to festival guides in magazines and on the Internet, as well as distribution via social networks, you can find a few visitors from all over Germany and even other European countries. Since the capacity of the campsite was exceeded very quickly in 2006, the organizers decided to sell limited camping tickets for 2007. In 2008, another campsite was included to cope with the rush of campers. In 2010 the festival recorded more than 6,000 visitors for the first time, and in 2014 around 6,000 guests also attended the festival.
