The tractor (formerly The Fisheads ) is a German punk rock - band . The group works mainly with German texts. It was founded in 1997 by Arne Schneider and Carsten "Herr Ebu" Olbrich.

Naming

In the mid-1990s, when the band was still called The Fishheads , they played a concert in an American barracks. An old trailer pulled by a tractor served as the stage. Due to the language barrier, the band was referred to by the American GIs as "The guys with the tractor". Since they wanted to switch from English to German lyrics anyway, the name was adopted and the band was renamed Die Traktor .

Music genre

The tractors make punk rock with German lyrics. In the beginning the band mainly played funny lyrics like Eisbär, 007 or Poppen . More melancholy songs were added later, such as “Before I die” or “70/30”, although there is usually a certain irony there too. The more recent releases also suggest socially critical issues, sometimes even with political reference, such as in the songs Labelcode, Linksrotation or Das Projekt . The music press often associates The Tractors with the Toten Hosen and the doctors .

Rejection of the music industry

The tractors categorically reject music labels. They produce and distribute all their publications themselves. The negative attitude towards the music industry is clearly evident in the song "Labelcode". There it says in the chorus “We shit on the label code”. The band criticizes the commercialization of music and the interference of the labels in the musical freedom of the bands as well as the low profit sharing of smaller bands.
