The Real McKenzies are a folk punk - band from Vancouver , British Columbia , Canada , deep in their Scottish rooted origins.

Band history

The Scottish term ceilidh (pronounced like käi-lie ) denotes the main reason the Real McKenzies were founded and is their main source of inspiration. Ceilidh, according to the McKenzies, is a Gaelic word for "a crazy party that lasts for several days."

The McKenzies were founded in 1992 by front man Paul McKenzie , who cites his family as an additional motivation: “When I was a little boy my parents and grandparents put me in a kilt and made me sing and dance to traditional Scottish music. Starting a Scottish punk band was my way of revenge! ”.

During their live show, they wear kilts , knee socks (hoses) and sporran .

The Real McKenzies toured numerous North America and Europe. They have toured and played shows with Rancid , NOFX , Bad Religion , Shane MacGowan , Flogging Molly , The Bay City Rollers , The Briefs and many others.
