The Porters is a folk-punk / folk-rock band from the greater Duisburg and Düsseldorf area . The band combines traditional folk with punk / rock elements and was initially known through its collaboration with the Oi! Band 4 per thousand, which has since been dissolved . The frequently used description " The Pogues meets Social Distortion " aptly characterizes the musical style.
Band history
The band was founded in 2001 as a side project of some musicians from the bands 4 Promille , Sondaschule , Colt 45 and Emscherkurve 77 .
In 2002 the first album A Tribute to Arthur Guinness was released , which only contained cover versions of old Irish folk songs.
In 2006, the drummer Gehrke and the bassist Judith joined the band as two new members.
Through concerts with u. a. The Real McKenzies was also further increased the level of awareness of the band, so that in 2007 the second album Anywhere But Home could finally be released. With the exception of Cheating at Solitaire (originally by Mike Ness ) and Fiesta ( The Pogues ), the album only contains original compositions in folk-punk / folk-rock style.
At the end of 2007 the band was strengthened by Carsten Wrede on the accordion. In 2009 the line-up changed. "JimBob" (Thomas) took over the bass until 2010, then "Sebbo Armstrong" (Sebastian) took over the bass until the end of 2011, "El Bujny Grande" (Carsten) the lead guitar, "Signorina Violina" (Silke) the violin and "Gipsy Andy" (Andreas) the organ / piano / accordion. As a backup for the drums, "Lé Krollé" (Dennis) has also been seen live from time to time since 2010. The latest addition since the beginning of 2011 is Andreas alias "Irish Pete" on bass.
The Porters tour all year round through Germany and neighboring countries (France, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Benelux etc.).
