Sondaschule is a Founded in 1999 ska-punk - band from Oberhausen and Mülheim an der Ruhr . The name refers to the "style debate about old school and new school".

Band history

The band was founded in 1999 in the district Styrum in Mülheim an der Ruhr founded by Marc Böhle and Mirko Klautmann. The founding members also included the singer Tim Kleinrensing (“Costa Cannabis”) and the wind section of the old band von Böhle and Klautmann, “The Project”. Sondaschule played concerts with bands like Anti-Flag or Ska-P .

With their first album, Klasse 1A , released in 2002, they played a tour of over 200 concerts.

After Böhle left the band in 2005 and was replaced by Tobias Rauch, they released their second album Rambazamba in 2006 . The Rambazamba tour of the same name , which included over 100 concerts, took them from Germany to Holland via Austria to Italy.

During this tour trumpeter Carmelo Parello left the band and was replaced by trombonist Christopher Altmann, so that from now on two trombonists played in the band. In addition, Sascha Gase also left the formation, which led to a total of five different drummers playing more than 30 concerts in 2007. In 2008 they opened Rock am Ring and won the Open Flair band contest . and released the EP Herzlichen Glückwunsch and the third Sondaschule album Volle Kanne . In 2010 the new album from a to b was released and in the third week it rose to number 9 on the "DAT 20 - The German Alternative and Trend Charts". 2012 saw the release of the album Lass es wir tut , with which the band entered the general German album charts for the first time. In 2015 the album Schön kaputt was released and reached number 8 in the German album charts. In July 2017 the album Schere, Stein, Papier was released , which reached number 7 in the German album charts.

style

Both musically and lyrically, Sondaschule move in the area of Ska-Punk. Her texts are written entirely in German and are often (self-) ironic. Classic topics are the path to becoming a star , drugs and funny love stories that usually end in a fiasco .

In an interview about their album Volle Kanne , Sondaschule describe their lyrics as “[…] irrelevant nonsense as always. Love, hate, drugs and nothing can […] ”( Sondaschule : Interview with Hamburg Records ).

The musical style differs between the individual albums. While the songs on the first Class 1A album are more stylistically compatible with punk rock , tend to be “harder” and the winds are used to accompany them, Rambazamba is clearly more in the direction of Ska (punk). Both genres are represented almost equally on Volle Kanne , there are songs from both genres. The fourth album From A to B is described in an initial assessment as “fun, poppy punk rock between summer, fun and dance”.
