Mike Ness (actually Michael James Ness ) (born April 3, 1962 ) is an American guitarist and singer . He is the front man of the punk band Social Distortion .

Life

Ness was in Stoneham ( Massachusetts born) and in Orange County ( California grown). He was kicked out by his parents when he was 15 and came into contact with drugs and petty crime, but also with the punk movement. In 1978 he founded the band Social Distortion . The band got a contract with Posh Boy Records in 1980 and so some singles appeared that were later summarized on the album Mainliner (Wreckage From The Past) .

By that time, Ness' drug addiction and self-destructive behavior had grown so bad that the band almost broke up. This phase was also recorded on the video Another State of Mind , which recorded a tour of the band.

In 1985–1987, Ness also played in the rock band Easter, where he can be seen in several music videos.

In 1999 Mike Ness released his first solo album called Cheating at Solitaire . The music of Social Distortion already contained many influences from country music, but on Cheating at Solitaire you can see even more Ness' fondness for this music. Mike Ness' second solo album ( Under the Influences ) is a compilation of covers of well-known country pieces, with which Ness introduces titles that have influenced him as a person and musically.

Ness is married to Christine Marie, an American model. He has two sons, Julian (* 1992) and Johnny (* 1997).
