The Brainless Wankers (English. Brainless wankers ) were a German band from Berlin-Reinickendorf that their musical style as " punk rock with trumpet summarizes". The band broke up in February 2008 after a final tour.

history

The band was founded by the current members in 1991 as a school band. In the early days they already drew attention to themselves through quite humorous, but untalented concerts. Originally they mainly played German covered songs (e.g. Das Lied der Smurfs ), which were greatly changed by the massive use of distorted guitars. Over the years, however, the Brainless Wankers honed their musical skills.

At the latest from their album Endorphin , which came out in 2000 with the single Holiday from Happiness , they were a fixture in the German punk scene . Her appearance with Sido at the Bundesvision Song Contest 2005 , in which she played for her state of Berlin , also caused a stir . They also played as the opening act for great musicians such as Bad Religion , The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Millencolin . The band has also played at major festivals such as Berlinova or With Full Force in 2005. They were also seen on television in some episodes of the RTL series Behind Bars , in which they, the Brainless Wankers, play themselves.

A performance at the Fête de la musique on June 21, 2005 in the AbracadaBar in Paris brought her closer to the French audience .

In October 2007 the farewell tour Sorry, gotta go . After the last concert on February 2nd, 2008 in the Berlin Magnet Club , the band broke up.

Texts

The English lyrics of the Wankers songs are considered extremely pointed by critics for a German band . Thematically, attempts are often made to criticize the attitudes towards life or social conditions of our time with a wink of the eye using rather funny texts .

Members

Only Oliver Reinert ( vocals ), Felix Meißner ( guitar ) and Florian Knauer ( bass ) were permanent members, and both the trumpet players and the drummers took turns in the live line-up .

Meißner was the songwriter, Reinert was generally responsible for the lyrics. The lyrics by Borsig Locomotive from the album Endorphin and The Idols Are Dead on Consider Yourself Rocked , however, came from Knauer. As the main drummer, Obi Amendt followed in the footsteps of Rudi Ruschmann, who had left the band to devote more time to work and family. A specialty for a punk band was the dancer Denis Klose, who, in addition to this activity, also played bass for the up-and-coming Berlin band Blind Approach . It is interesting that the Brainless Wankers consisted exclusively of academics , some of whom did their doctorate or habilitation in subjects such as biochemistry, English and law .

The band members run their own record label called Rockhit Records, on which they have so far published seven other bands ( One Fine Day , Andthewinneris , 5BUGS , Carry-All , Elektroboys , Random and The New Story ).

2 of the ex-wankers founded the electro-pop band protokumpel in 2009 .
