history

The band The Green River Burial was founded in 2008 in the Hessian city of Frankfurt am Main and at the time consisted of singer Mert, guitarist Mo, bassist Phil and drummer Laurin. The name was originally chosen based on the American serial killer Gary Ridgway , the "Green River Killer", but this reference was increasingly forgotten. The band's first musical sign of life appeared in the form of a demo CD in 2009.

Just one year later, the group released Means to an End, an EP that was financed and produced by the musicians themselves. Between June 4th and 14th, 2012 the band played a tour with Choking on Illusions , which led through Germany , Austria , France and Luxembourg . On August 20, 2012, The Green River Burial was signed by the German record company Bastardized Recordings . The debut album Separate & Coalesce was finally released on November 2, 2012 via this label.

From 5 to 15 September 2013 was The Green River Burial co-headliner of Exhaust tour of The Science of Sleep , largely led by Germany. One concert on this tour took place in the Netherlands . On June 27, 2014 the band played at the Mair1 Festival at the Montabaur airfield . There the quartet could be seen on the Painstage with The Gogets , To the Rats and Wolves , The Charm the Fury and Skin of Tears . A month earlier, between May 13th and 18th, 2014, the group played in the opening act for I Declare War at six concerts in Russia . The group has already written the first songs for the upcoming album and will try to develop further material in the coming months. The group hopes to be able to bring the follow-up album on the market next year.

After singer Mert announced his departure from the band at the beginning of 2015, the new front man was introduced on May 10, 2015, Gerald Ruschel. In addition, a 2-track EP was announced with Blight , which will be released in mid-2015 via Bastardized Recordings.

On November 5, 2016, the group announced they would split up after releasing a new album. The band played their last concert on November 18th in Leipzig.

style

The music of The Green River Burial is rooted in the different layers of hardcore punk . Influences from groups like The Acacia Strain , Stick to Your Guns and The Ghost Inside are attributed to the group. The pieces of the group are also certified as "massive beatdown parts ".

According to Christian Kruse from Metal Hammer , the songs of the group in the debut album Separate & Coalesce feature melodic interludes but also breakdowns , which were "put in the right light" by the production. The group also makes use of German rap singing in their song Reinvent the Real . He testified to the group's musical recognition value and diversity. Phil explained in an interview that the group wanted to hire arrest warrant for the Rapparts, but this did not work for contractual reasons, so the musicians recorded these parts themselves.

Tobias Blum from Rock Hard Magazine is of the opinion that The Green River Burial is only defined by its "heaviness". He describes the music as a one-dimensional metalcore or deathcore . Arne Kupetz from Legacy.de, on the other hand, describes the music as a variable mix of different "core" styles. According to Kupetz, the musicians do not commit themselves to a single playing style in their album, but give each song its own note.
