The style of music can be described as a mixture of hardcore punk and metalcore . On the fifth album, the sound of the group also reminds of Rise Against at times . In their lyrics, the band deals with topics such as politics , violence in marriage , homophobia and religious fascism . Singer Jesse Barnett categorically rejects an assignment of the band as a Christian music group.
The group toured several times through North America , Europe , Australia , South America and Asia . The group played at several well-known music festivals, such as the Summerblast Festival , the Vainstream Festival , the Groezrock , the Impericon Festivals , the Hellfest of the Warped Tour and the Never Say Die! history
Beginnings and debut album
The band was formed in the summer of 2003 by singer Jesse Barnett. At this point he was in high school . In an interview, Barnett stated that he never intended to be a singer in the group. Shortly after the founding, guitarists Justin Rutherford and Curtis Pleshe, drummer Casey Lagos and bassist Noah Calvin joined them. Together they recorded the EP Compassion Without Compromise that same year . Ash Avildsen of Sumerian Records became aware of the band, which allowed the band to play as the opening act for Ignite and achieve a higher level of awareness. As a result, Stick to Your Guns was finally able to sign a recording deal with Sumerian Records in 2006.
This was followed by a tour of the USA with Caliban and The Acacia Strain , as well as another tour with Too Pure to Die and As Blood Runs Black . In January and February 2007 followed a tour together with The Warriors and All Shall Perish .
The debut album For What It's Worth was released in 2005 via This City Is Burning Records . Due to their intensive tour engagement, the group was later signed by Sumerian Records, which acquired the rights to the debut album, which was finally reissued in 2007. The group was officially signed to Sumerian Records in December 2006. Stick to Your Guns played as part of the Don't Call It a Comeback Tour with Suicide Silence and Bury Your Dead .
Second album: Comes from the Heart

The second album, Comes from the Heart, followed in 2008 and was released through Century Media . As early as January 2008 it was announced that the group had signed a worldwide record deal with Century Media. The album was produced by Chris Harris , who achieved fame in the scene under the pseudonym "Zeuss" by producing commercially successful albums for bands like Hatebreed and Shadows Fall .
In 2009 the group toured the United States and played with bands such as Emmure , Parkway Drive , Shai Hulud , Winds of Plague and Unearth .
Third album: The Hope Division
The next album, called The Hope Division , was released in 2010 through Sumerian Records. Another US tour followed in October and November with Blessthefall , Emarosa and Oceans Ate Alaska .
Better Ash Than Dust and True View
On July 8, 2016, it was announced that the band had left their previous record company Sumerian Records and switched to Pure Noise Records . On the same day a new song was released with Universal Language . It was also announced that a new EP would be released in 2016. More information about this EP was announced on August 17th, 2016. This is called Better Ash Than Dust , contains five pieces and was announced for September 23rd. In Europe this EP will be released through End Hits Records .
Between September 8 and October 2, 2016, the band completed a North American concert tour accompanied by Expire and Stray from the Path . At the beginning of 2017, Stick to Your Guns was the first American hardcore band to play in Kenya . The concert was made possible by several non-profit organizations. Immediately after the performance in the East African country, a European tour with Parkway Drive followed . At the beginning of June, the musicians started recording their sixth studio album with producer Derek Hoffman . The album, called True View , was announced for October 2017 at the end of July.
In November and December 2017 the band completed another European tour with Being as an Ocean , Silent Planet and First Blood . In the spring of 2018, the group played in the opening act for Architects in the United States and Canada .
style
The band plays a modern version of hardcore. The singing is both clear and guttural . The texts often contain socially and politically critical aspects and encourage the listener to think more carefully about their social environment. In contrast, there are hard guitar riffs as well as melancholic and melodic passages. The music can be described as hardcore , metalcore or, due to the melodic insertions, melodic hardcore . Originally, the band's sound should be based on the sounds of Hatebreed .
The musicians also deal with topics such as homophobia , violence in marriage and religious fascism . Nevertheless, the group tries to analyze the presented problems in their texts in order to get a more positive conclusion. In the booklet of their album Diamond , the group quotes several well-known personalities, including Albert Einstein . The group dedicated the song Bringing You Down to the Occupy Wall Street movement.
The musicians name groups like Boysetsfire , Ignite or Death by Stereo as musical influences. Each member of the band has different influences, ranging from Creed and Nickelback to Metallica and Green Day . On their fifth album, the metalcore has almost completely disappeared and gives way to melodic hardcore . As with The Hope Division and Diamond , the group also uses individual pieces on Disobedient to incorporate excerpts from speeches by the Indian philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti . Some critics claim that the message behind many of the group's lyrics is comparable to that of several Christian metal bands like Sleeping Giant . Singer Jesse Barnett describes the Christian God as an "asshole":
"It was like, you know, if you don't believe in a Christian God, you're gonna go to hell. Or if you're gay, you're gonna go to hell. And I started thinking, wow, this dude God sounds like a bit of a prick. "
