Silent Planet is a metalcore / post-hardcore band from Los Angeles , California , formed in 2010 .

history

Silent Planet was founded in 2010 in Los Angeles ( California ) by singer Garrett Russell, guitarists Spencer Keene, Mitchell Stark and Igor Efimov, as well as bassist Thomas Freckleton - who also acts as keyboardist and background singer - and drummer Alex Camarena. However, Keene does not appear as a musician at the band's concerts.

In May 2012, the group released their first EP, Come Wind, Come Weather . This was produced in Atlanta , Georgia together with Matt Goldman, who already worked with Casting Crowns , Vanna and Underoath . The first major tours followed with groups like Becoming the Archetype , Dayseeker and I, of Helix. The band also played at the California Metalfest. In 2013 the band toured with Fit for a King and Wolves at the Gate as part of the Scream the Prayer Tour . On January 2nd, 2014 the second EP was released with the name lastsleep (1944-1946) . Concert tours with This or the Apocalypse , Sleeping Giant, The Ongoing Concept , Phinehas, Those Who Fear and Lionfight followed.

This was followed by the signature with Solid State Records , which in November 2014 released the debut album The Night God Slept . To promote the album, the group headlined the United States on a concert tour between November 3 and November 29, 2014 . In January 2015, the group played four concerts as an opener for For Today . A short concert tour with Norma Jean and For the Fallen Dreams followed in March . Between May 8th and May 22nd, 2015, the band is opener for Gideon and Texas in July . Before that, the band will play a US tour with Dayseeker , during which the group will play their full-length debut album The Night God Slept .

On September 30, 2015, Efimov announced on his Twitter account that he was no longer a member of the band.

style

Silent Planet's music can be described as a melodic variant of metalcore . Groups like Hands , Underoath , Oh, Sleeper , but also Deftones are named as musical influences .

In addition to the Christian themes that the band takes up in their songs, the group has recorded a complete EP with lastsleep (1944-1946) , which has a historical background . Tiny Hands (Au Revoir) tells the story of Marguerite Rouffanche, who survived the Oradour massacre , while Darkstrand (Hibakusha) tells about an unknown victim of World War II shortly after the atomic bombing on Hiroshima .

Native Blood, on the other hand, tells the story of the Native Americans , for example through the Indian Removal Act of 1830 and the Dawes Act of 1887.
