This or the Apocalypse is an American metalcore band formed in Lancaster , Pennsylvania in 2006 .
history
The band was formed in 2006 by Rick Armellino (vocals), Rodney Field (electric guitar), Jack Esbenshade (electric guitar), Sean Hennessey (electric bass) and Grant MacFarland (drums). Together they recorded their first demo called Drunken Billionaire Burns Down Home in the same year . Together they did a few gigs and held some small, self-financed tours. In the same year they recorded their first self-produced album called Sentinels and released it without the support of a label. With the release of the album, the German label Lifeforce Records became aware of the band and signed them.
The first album under the label was released in the USA in September 2007 under the name Monuments , and then worldwide a month later. After the release, the band went on a ten-month tour through North America, developing new pieces for another album. In 2009 the band performed at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival , which also featured bands like Lamb of God , As I Lay Dying and Emmure . Chris Adler , drummer of Lamb of God, became aware of the band. Together with Josh Wilbur , who had already produced albums for Avenged Sevenfold and Atreyu , they recorded the new album. The album Haunt What's Left was released in July 2010 via Lifeforce Records.
In 2018 the band renamed itself "Hawk". In an interview, singer Armellino indicated that pressure from the music industry was the cause of the name change.
style
Characteristic for the band is their complex style of play, as well as the high technical level of play. The aggressiveness of the pieces also defines the style. The style of the band is compared to other bands like Shai Hulud or Drowningman .
