Christopher James Adler (born November 23, 1972 in Washington, DC ) is an American drummer . He was a member of the bands Lamb of God , Nitro and Blotted Science .

Career

The son of a singer and pianist began playing drums in his early teens. In addition, he learned piano , saxophone , acoustic guitar and bass during his school days . During his time in high school and college , Adler was involved in various bands and projects, but they never got beyond the demo stage.

Adler attended Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond in 1990 , where he met guitarist Mark Morton and bassist John Campbell. Together, the musicians founded the band Burn the Priest , which ten years later renamed itself Lamb of God. With Lamb of God, Adler released seven studio albums and received five Grammy Award nominations . His brother Willie has been playing guitar with Lamb of God since 1999. In the summer of 2018, Adler had to cancel his participation in Slayer's farewell tour . Art Cruz, who previously played with Prong and Winds of Plague , stood in for him. Adler later stated that he had sought treatment for a motorcycle accident . On June 19, 2019, Lamb of God announced the split from Chris Adler, who was replaced by Art Cruz .

Chris Adler played briefly in the technical death metal - Supergroup Blotted Science, led by former Watchtower was founded guitar-player Ron Jarzombek. However, Adler had difficulties implementing the song ideas that were passed on to him. Since he also lives a long way from the other musicians, Blotted Science separated from Adler. In 2011, Adler has appeared on the album Seeking Major Tom by William Shatner and played the song Rocket Man one. Two years later, Adler recorded the album Voilition by the Canadian band Protest the Hero . The album received the Juno Award in 2014.

In March 2015, the band Megadeth announced that Chris Adler would play on their studio album Dystopia . Adler then played numerous concerts with the band before Megadeth introduced former Soilwork drummer Dirk Verbeuren as a permanent member in July 2016 . In December 2016, the band Nitro announced their reunion and introduced Chris Adler as drummer. As early as May 2019, Nitro announced their renewed dissolution without a new album being released.

On February 12, 2017, Adler won the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance for the Megadeth song Dystopia (from the album of the same name) at the 59th Grammy Awards together with Dave Mustaine , Kiko Loureiro and Dave Ellefson .

Chris Adler is known for his unusual style of play. Even though he is left-handed , he uses a right-handed drum kit.
