Resolution is the seventh studio album by the US metal band Lamb of God . It was released on January 20, 2012 via Roadrunner Records . The song Ghost Walking was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance .

Emergence

Drummer Chris Adler announced in December 2010 that the band would work again with producer Josh Wilburg on their new album . In spring 2011, the musicians worked on the ideas they had collected and recorded some demos . At the same time, the song Hit the Wall for the computer game Iron Man 2 was released. However, the song was not used for the album.

Recordings began on June 22, 2011. A total of 17 songs were recorded, 14 of which were used on the regular version of the album. One song was only recorded instrumentally. For the first time the band worked with an orchestra and the opera singer Amanda Munton, who can be heard on the song King Me .

For the chorus of the song, singer Randy Blythe translated the Latin text of the Requiem in D minor by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart into English . The recordings took place in New York City and Fort Hayward . Resolution was produced and mixed by Josh Wilbur. The iTunes version of the album includes the song Digital Sands and a live recording of the song Vigil as a bonus .

The album title Resolution comes from a line of text from the song Ruin from the album As the Palaces Burn . According to singer Randy Blythe, the title reflects the whole album because the word resolution has several meanings .

“Of course, a solution, an end, but also actions that you take that bring you closer to an alleged solution. […] The album is about all of these things; it is a lucky coincidence that the title fits. "

- Randy Blythe

According to Mark Morton, the lyrics of the album refer to the personal experiences of the band members and relate to things, the things that the musicians have experienced for themselves and as a group. The lyrics of Resolution are therefore a contrast to those of the previous album, since Wrath 's lyrics were about other people. Ghost Walking , for example, is about the fact that Morton made wrong decisions in many situations in which he should have made the right decisions. In an interview he described this quirk as a self-destructive trait of his.

The song The Number Six is about envy and resentment in today's society. In the text of the song, Randy Blythe names Leviathan, the demon of envy, which is one of the seven deadly sins . Blythe cited the Internet as an example in an interview , where many people criticize things without these people doing something themselves.

“Previous generations admired successful people and recognized their achievements. Today it's more exciting to watch people crash. This development says a lot about the mental state of our society. "

- Mark Morton

Barbarossa is an instrumental whose title was borrowed from the recording studio where the album was recorded. The song Visitation , according to Blythe, deals with the negative aspects of things one loves. As an example, he cited his own band, for which he sacrifices many parts of normalcy and rarely sees his family. For this he can pay his bills with the income. King Me refers to Blythe's previous alcohol addiction . At the same time, he warns in the text that every person who considers himself to be something special makes king what this person sooner or later kills.
