Mark Duane Morton (born November 25, 1972 in Richmond ) is an American guitarist . He is a member of the band Lamb of God and has been publishing solo works since 2019.

Career

In the early 1990s, Morton attended Virginia Commonwealth University , where he met drummer Chris Adler and bassist John Campbell. Together they founded the band Burn the Priest in 1990 . He graduated four years later and moved to Chicago . At the same time he left the band. In 1999 Morton got back in, while the band later renamed the Lamb of God. With Lamb of God Morton released seven studio albums and two more under the name Burn the Priest. Lamb of God were nominated five times for a Grammy in the categories Best Metal Performance and Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance , but the band never received an award. The American magazine Loudwire has Lamb of God on its list of the 50 most important metal bands of the 21st century.

On March 1, 2019, Mark Morton released his solo album Anesthetic , which he had been working on for years. The album was produced by Josh Wilbur. There are several guest singers on the album such as Chester Bennington ( Linkin Park ), Randy Blythe (Lamb of God), Alissa White-Gluz ( Arch Enemy ), Jacoby Shaddix ( Papa Roach ), Chuck Billy ( Testament ) and Myles Kennedy ( Alter Bridge ). Morton played all the guitars on the album, while bass and drums were recorded by Roy Mayorga ( Stone Sour ), David Ellefson ( Megadeth ), Paolo Gregoletto ( Trivium ) and Mike Inez ( Alice in Chains ), among others . For the following short tour through the USA with the support groups Light the Torch and Moon Tooth , Morton engaged singer Mark Morales, bassist Nick Villareal (both Sons of Texas ), guitarist Doc Coyle ( Bad Wolves ) and drummer Art Cruz ( Winds of Plague ) as a backing band. On January 17th, 2020 the EP Ether was released, which contains five songs in acoustic form. The vocals on Ether were performed by Lzzy Hale ( Halestorm ), Howard Jones (Light the Torch), John Carbone (Moon Tooth) and Mark Morales , among others .

Together with the DevilDriver singer Dez Fafara , Morton maintains the Born of the Storm project , which has so far released four tracks. In addition, Morton released a few other solo titles and was active as a guest musician with artists such as Swashbuckle , Gwar , Dee Snider and DevilDriver. Morton plays guitars made by Jackson Guitars . Morton can be seen in the documentary Metal - A Headbanger's Journey together with his bandmate Randy Blythe .
