Paolo Gregoletto (born September 14, 1985 in Miami , Florida ) is the bassist of the band Trivium and ex-member of Metal Militia. Gregoletto lives in Pompano Beach , Florida.
Metal Militia
Gregoletto has been a member of Metal Militia since it was founded in 1999, where he played bass and sang. In 2003 it was considered to nominate the band for Grammys in the categories Best Rock (Metal) Album and Best Metal Performance. Ultimately, however, the band did not receive any nominations and Metallica won the Best Metal Performance for their album St. Anger .
Trivium
Gregoletto joined Trivium in 2004 when Matthew Heafy and Travis Smith were holding auditions for a new bassist. Just in time for the tour with Machine Head , he replaced Brent Young after the recordings for Ember To Inferno were finished.
techniques
In an interview with Bass Guitar Magazine (July / August) Gregoletto said that he uses different techniques for bass lines, as is common for modern bass players. While he mainly uses a plectrum to play the lower strings faster to keep up with the double bass of the Trivium drummer, he occasionally plucks the more elegant-sounding melodies and the fast pentatonic accompaniments with two fingers . He also uses a modern three-finger plucking style preferred by Billy Sheehan , with which he creates a galloping rhythm (two sixteenths and one eighth) in the style of Steve Harris of Iron Maiden . In the same article he says that his preferred way of warming up is chromatic exercises, which use both fingers and a pick to cover the whole neck of the bass guitar up and down.
