Billy Sheehan
Billy Sheehan (born March 19, 1953 in Buffalo , New York ) is an American bassist .
Sheehan's career as a bassist began with the band Talas from Buffalo , which played in 1980 as a support act for Van Halen . Before that he played in local cover bands. With the band UFO he went on a European tour in 1983. However, he achieved his first commercial success in the band of the former Van Halen front man David Lee Roth , where he played with Steve Vai , whom he also accompanies on the G3 tours. But also with the combo Mr. Big , founded in 1989 with Paul Gilbert among others , he played himself in public. Mr. Big celebrated great success with the number 1 hit " To Be with You " and the Cat Stevens cover " Wild World ". Since 2001 he has also released solo albums, starting with his work Compression. Among other things, he still works in the band Niacin and helped other musicians such as Terry Bozzio , Greg Howe and many more. out. Since 2013 he has been playing with Mike Portnoy and Richie Kotzen in a band called The Winery Dogs, with whom he released two albums. Sheehan is a technically highly skilled player who has been voted "Best Rock Bass Player" five times in Guitar Player Magazine and is also highly respected by the bass community. When two-hand tapping became publicly known through Eddie Van Halen , Sheehan made an important contribution to establishing this technique on the bass as well. Sheehan is therefore often referred to as "the Eddie Van Halen of the bass".
The Yamaha company offers two Billy Sheehan Signature models . The Attitude Limited 3 is characterized above all by the ability to pick up the signals from the two pickups separately.
Billy Sheehan has been a member of the Church of Scientology since 1971 .
