The Winery Dogs is an American hard rock - Supergroup , which in 2011 Brooklyn was founded. The members of this power trio are Mike Portnoy , Billy Sheehan and Richie Kotzen .
history
The founding of the band originally goes back to a project for which Portnoy and John Sykes ( Whitesnake , Thin Lizzy ) wrote songs together in 2011 and for which they were able to win Sheehan as bassist. Sykes was not interested in recording the resulting material, so Portnoy and Sheehan decided to move on with another guitarist and hired Richie Kotzen. After the first joint work, the musicians completely refrained from using Sykes songs. More sessions followed in spring 2012, and in July 2013 the group released their first, self-titled album.
All musicians involved have already been successful as members of other bands or as solo artists: Portnoy was a founding member of Dream Theater , Sheehan played in David Lee Roth's band and with Mr. Big , Kotzen was with several solo albums and as a member of Poison and Mr. Big known.
The group made their first appearance on July 13, 2013 at the Japan Youth Hall Hikaru in Tokyo . The tour lasted until August 2014, and the band made 93 appearances in 15 countries. On July 17, 2013, the band recorded their live album Unleashed In Japan in Nippon Seinen-Kan in Tokyo , which was released in 2014. On October 23, 2013, the band played a special concert for the 30th anniversary of American radio host Eddie Trunk at the Hard Rock Café in New York City . Guests were Mark Tornillo , Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal , Tony Harnell, Scott Ian , John “Jay Jay” French ( Twisted Sister ), Lita Ford , Frank Bello , Peter Criss , Ace Frehley , Michael Sweet ( Stryper ), Bobby “Blitz “Ellsworth ( Overkill ), Steve Brown , Charlie Benante and Geoff Tate . They covered songs by UFO , Kiss , Deep Purple , Michael Schenker Group , Accept , Twisted Sister, Van Halen and Joan Baez .
On October 2nd, 2015 The Winery Dogs released their second album Hot Streak via EarMusic / Edel .
