He is a founding member and former singer of the progressive metal band Queensrÿche . Geoff Tate was named # 14 of Hit Parader's 100 Greatest Metal Singers of All Time. Life

Tate's father was an officer in the US Army and was stationed in Stuttgart at the time of Tate's birth. Shortly thereafter, his family moved to Tacoma , Washington .

Tate mentions Rob Halford of Judas Priest and Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden as his influences . He began his musical career in the progressive rock band Myth, whose first album Arabia was only released after Tate left the band. He joined the band The Mob in 1981, which later became Queensrÿche. The band already had a few full demo songs, but there was one more song with no lyrics and this ("The Lady Wore Black") became Tate's first song he wrote for Queensrÿche. In 1983 the band released their self-produced debut EP Queensrÿche .

On June 20, 2012 it was announced that Geoff Tate and Queensrÿche would go their separate ways from now on. He was replaced by Crimson Glory singer Todd La Torre. On September 1, 2012, Geoff Tate announced that he would create his own version of Queensrÿche. On April 28, 2014, the lawsuit between Geoff Tate and the three remaining original members Michael Wilton, Eddy Jackson and Scott Rockenfield was settled. One could agree out of court. The remaining original members with the newcomers Todd La Torre and Parker Lundgren received the full naming rights of the Queensrÿche brand. Geoff Tate was given the right to perform under the name Geoff Tate - Original lead singer of Queensrÿche or Geoff Tate - Formerly of Queensrÿche for two years; after these two years he is no longer allowed to refer to the band Queensrÿche. Tate also got the rights to the albums Operation: Mindcrime and Operation: Mindcrime II, as well as the right to put them on stage as a show of their own.

In addition to his work with Queensrÿche, Geoff Tate has released two solo albums so far. He released his self-titled debut on Sanctuary Records in 2002 and Kings & Thieves followed on InsideOut Music in 2012 .

In 2014 Geoff Tate formed his own band Operation: Mindcrime , named after the 1988 Queensryche album of the same name.

Tate is married and has four daughters. His daughter Miranda is the ex-wife of Queensrÿche guitarist Parker Lundgren. Tate is a vegetarian and runs a winery that produces a wine called Insania .
