InsideOut Music is a record label based in Kleve, Germany , which is dedicated to releasing progressive rock , progressive metal and related styles. The American section of the label - InsideOut Music America - is based in Pittsburgh . After the parent company SPV had to file for bankruptcy in 2009, Inside Out was taken over by Century Media .
Several major bands of the newer currents of progressive rock are signed to InsideOut, including The Flower Kings , Spock's Beard , Enchant and Pain of Salvation . There are also connections to other scene-relevant bands, such as three solo albums by dream theater singer James LaBrie and a few side projects by Mike Portnoy on InsideOut. Since December 2017, Dream Theaters have also been with InsideOut. For some time now, the label has been releasing digitally processed re-releases of albums from the Krautrock era, for example by the band Kraan.
The immediate vicinity of the company headquarters often serves as an inspiration for the album cover. For example, Spock's Beard's “Octane” cover is in Kleve and the lake on Threshold's “Subsurface” is also there.
Characteristic is the lush publication work of the label. In addition to the standard versions, numerous albums appear in special editions , which contain extensive bonus material such as bonus and multimedia tracks. The publication of live DVDs, which also contain all of the material on the DVD as an audio CD, is also unusual.
