Threshold is a progressive metal - band from England .
history
Threshold was founded in the late 1980s by Karl Groom (guitar), Jon Jeary (vocals, electric bass) and Nick Midson (guitar) in the south of England. Tony Grinham (drums) and Richard West (keyboard) completed the line-up. After a growing number of performances, Jon Jeary decided to devote himself entirely to the bass and Damian Wilson was brought into the band as lead singer. In 1993 she signed a contract with the independent label GEP and released her debut album Wounded Land . Traditionally, every Threshold album has a specific overarching theme. In Wounded Land is about how people deal with nature. In 1994 the second studio album was released with Psychedelicatessen . Damian Wilson had meanwhile left the band in order to be able to concentrate more on his roles in the musical theater. Glynn Morgan was found to replace. This was followed by an extensive tour in the opening act of Dream Theater , which increased the level of awareness of Threshold. In addition, their first video for the song Innocent was produced.
After a long break and again changing the microphone (Damian Wilson returned to the band) and the drums (Mark Heaney for Nick Harradence), Threshold went back to the studio to record her third album Extinct Instinct , which is about "The decline of spiritual values “Treated. In 1998 Threshold released the fourth studio album, Clone . Inspired by the sheep " Dolly ", the first "officially" cloned mammal, the musicians wrote their first concept album. The text is about a girl who is born DNA manipulated and who over time finds out that she has psychic powers. By Andrew McDermott of being last singer was found already on the record, and on the tour for the album and Johanne James joined the band to band. In 1999, Threshold played at the Wacken Open Air , in whose environment Mac was voted the best frontman of the festival by the audience . After the performance, Richard West left the band for six months. In 2000 she moved from GEP to the InsideOut Music label . Hypothetical was published under this in 2001 , which brought the band "Album of the Month Awards" in numerous magazines such as Rock Hard and Metal Hammer . The more progressive Critical Mass followed in 2002 . During the 2003 summer tour, the live DVD Critical Energy was recorded, which features a set of the band's greatest hits. In 2004 the seventh studio album was released with Subsurface . This brought the band into the top 30 in the German charts for the first time. Jon Jeary has now been permanently replaced by Steve Anderson , a long-time friend of the band. Since one had learned about Critical Mass from the problems of the tour , all concert dates for the "Subsurface Tour" were given on the CD. This tour (with Deadsoul Tribe as support) became one of the most successful of the band.
The band has been under contract with Nuclear Blast since autumn 2006 and thus enjoys the advantages of a market leader in the metal segment. Nick Midson is no longer there for the time being, as he, as the only member of the band with another main job, has to take a break. The band released their eighth studio album, Dead Reckoning, on March 23, 2007 under Nuclear Blast . In the summer of 2007, singer Andrew McDermott left the band while the tour was ongoing and was replaced by former singer Damian Wilson for the rest of the tour. After Damian Wilson acted as the front singer of the band on the tour section in spring 2008, he is now a permanent member of the band again. Andrew "Mac" McDermott died on August 3, 2011 of kidney failure. On August 24, 2012 (Europe) and September 11, 2012 (North America), their ninth studio album, March of Progress, was released after a five-year waiting period.
Two years later, the tenth studio album, "For The Journey", was released and provoked mixed reactions. During the album tour the double live album "European Journey" was recorded, which mainly consists of "March Of Progress" and "For The Journey" songs.
In March 2017 Threshold announced the separation from Damian Wilson, who was replaced by Glynn Morgan, who sang the second album "Psychedelicatessen" in 1994.
Trivia
With their albums Extinct Instinct , Hypothetical , Critical Mass , Subsurface , Dead Reckoning and March of Progress , the band has already won six “Album of the Month” awards in German rock-hard magazine. Since this u. A. succeeded with their last five studio albums, one can even speak of a five-piece series.
