The Flower Kings is a Swedish progressive rock - band .

Band history

In 1994 guitarist Roine Stolt released a solo album called The Flower King . Stolt, who was already active in the band Kaipa in the 1970s , followed up on classic progressive rock with The Flower King . For the recording of the album, Stolt gathered a small group of musicians around him.

Since The Flower King got good reviews, Stolt and his fellow musicians decided to form a band . This was named after Stolt's solo work The Flower Kings. In the following years the Flower Kings developed into one of the internationally most popular bands of the genre.

After a five-year creative break - the band's musical head, Roine Stolt, meanwhile worked on the Transatlantic and Agents of Mercy projects - the band released two more albums in 2012 and 2013.

style

As a retro-prog band, the Flower Kings tie in with the classic progressive rock of the 1970s. Her special focus is symphonic rock with jazz influences. Characteristic for the sound of the band are high bass lines , typical prog keyboard sounds like Mellotron and Hammond organ as well as the frequent use of meditative passages in the compositions.

The track Stardust We Are from the album of the same name is seen by many fans as a highlight of the Flower Kings' work and is also considered a live classic of the band. The Suite Garden of Dreams from the album Flower Power also plays a prominent role in the band's repertoire , with a playing time of one hour which clearly exceeds the average long-track format. The double album Unfold the Future, with its clear Yes bonds and jazz influences, was also very well received by fan circles .

Band members

Roine Stolt is considered to be the head of the band and is responsible for most of the lyrics and compositions. As a founding member and co-composer, keyboardist Tomas Bodin is the second constant in the lineup. Permanent guest percussionist is Hasse Bruniusson , which with shrill stage appearance and unusual percussion significantly -Sounds of King Crimson - eccentrics Jamie Muir is affected. In the past, Daniel Gildenlöw , front man of the Swedish progressive metal combo Pain of Salvation , was a singer and guitarist with the Flower Kings. The position of drummer has been changed frequently in the past.

Others
