Daniel Gildenlöw (born June 5, 1973 in Eskilstuna , Sweden ) is a Swedish musician and songwriter. Gildenlöw is also the main founder of the Swedish progressive metal band Pain of Salvation , where he is the second guitarist and singer. For Pain of Salvation he writes a large part of the songs and has developed the concept for every album of the band so far . Furthermore, he produces and mixes the albums himself in his home studio and is also responsible for the album cover art. In addition, Daniel Gildenlöw was temporarily a member of the progressive rock band The Flower Kings , but eventually left the band due to personal matters.

Life

In 1984 Daniel Gildenlöw founded the band Reality in his hometown Eskilstuna at the age of only eleven . Although the line-up changed constantly, the band stayed for a long time. After about seven years in 1991, Gildenlöw had the idea to rename the band Pain of Salvation , as this name was more to him than reality.

In 1997 Gildenlöw released his first album with Pain of Salvation, Entropia . In 2002 he first appeared as a guest musician on the album "Unfold The Future" by The Flower Kings . On the tours that followed, he strengthened this band on vocals , guitar , keyboard and percussion , which soon allowed him to establish himself as a permanent member of the band. For private reasons, however, he left the Flower Kings again in 2005. In 2008 he sang on the Ayreon album "01011001" . In 2010 he supported the band Transatlantic (as on their European tour in 2001) on their "Whirld" tour. Most recently he took part in the project The Sea Within , u. a. with Roine Stolt and Marco Minnemann , who released an album of the same name in 2018.

Private life

Daniel Gildenlöw is married to Johanna Gildenlöw, née Iggsten, with whom he has three sons (Sandrian, Nimh and Morris). He also has a brother, Kristoffer Gildenlöw, who played as bass player in Pain of Salvation.
