Ghostlights is the seventh studio album of the German metal opera project Avantasia by the musician Tobias Sammet , who wrote all the compositions and texts for the album. It was released on January 29, 2016. It rose to number 2 in the German album charts. The first single from the album Mystery of a Blood Red Rose participated as a contribution to the German preliminary decision of the ESC 2016 , where the song took third place.

Plot of the album

According to Tobias Sammet's introduction in the text of the booklet that comes with the CD, Ghostlights ties in with The Mystery of Time and addresses the great questions of humanity. The 12 tracks on the album represent 12 chapters of a story in which a young scientist (Aaron Blackwell) is confronted with a group of scientists who manipulate people's individual sense of time. The challenge when writing the lyrics was that each piece had a coherent effect and that the 12 titles together resulted in a coherent story.
