history

The village was founded after the Peace of Passarowitz (1718) as part of the Habsburg colonization in the 18th century as a colony of forest workers and miners. The exact year of foundation is not known. According to some sources, the village was laid out in 1718, according to others in 1755 or 1778. The first residents were so-called Bufänen, Romanians from Little Wallachia (today: Oltenia) who were persecuted for their beliefs. Around 1790, German immigrants from Styria also came. They were primarily woodworkers. It is to them that the village owes its first name, stamp village . However, the Germans soon left the place and settled in Sasca Montană .

In 1855 Stempeldorf came into the possession of the Austro-Hungarian State Railway Company (StEG). After the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Banat was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary . The official place name was Máriahavas and the German place name was Mariaschnee from 1888 . The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the triple division of the Banat, whereby Știnăpari fell to the Kingdom of Romania . In the interwar period Știnăpari belonged to Răcăşdia and had 800 inhabitants.
