Heavens Gate ( English : "Himmelstor") was a heavy metal band from Wolfsburg . It was founded in 1988 by singer and songwriter Thomas Rettke together with Thorsten Müller, Bonny Bilski, Sascha Paeth and Manni Jordan. They had their greatest success in 1991 with their album Livin 'in Hysteria , which was a box-office hit in Japan .
history
For their first self-produced demo, the band received an offer for a contract from the head of the sub-publisher Warner Chapell / Edition Metromania, Frank Bornemann. He invited the band to his Horus Sound Studio in Hanover to record a professional demo with the producer Ralf Krause. In the summer of 1988, the band signed a record deal with the No Remorse Records label. Shortly before, Ingo Millek left the band and was replaced by guitarist Sascha Paeth .
The first CD In Control from 1989 made it into the top ten of the import charts in Japan. In the same year the mini CD Open the Gate and Watch was recorded in the Horus Studio. In 1990 the band switched to the record company SPV / Steamhammer. At the same time, a management contract was signed with the Hamburg manager Limb Schnoor. The second album Livin 'in Hysteria from 1991 became a worldwide success. The album sold over 40,000 copies in Japan alone. The album Hell for Sale followed in 1992 ; the most successful work by the five Wolfsburg-based company to date. An extensive tour followed. The two shows at the legendary Club Chitta in Tokyo were recorded live and released in autumn 1993 as a live CD Live for Sale .
After the world tour, bassist Manni Jordan left the band and was replaced by multi-instrumentalist Robert Hunecke-Rizzo. In 1994 the band built the GATE STUDIO in Wolfsburg. Guitarist Sascha Paeth produced the album Planet E there in 1996. This was followed by the unplugged album In the Mood (1997) and the CD Menergy (1999). After a metal festival in Sweden , the band split in late 1999.
Sascha Paeth then became a producer. In 2003 almost the whole band played again in the metal opera Days of Rising Doom , which was composed by Amanda Somerville, Robert Hunecke-Rizzo and Sascha Paeth. Thomas Rettke and Sascha founded the power metal band Redkey in 2005 , which released the album Rage of Fire worldwide in 2006.
