Peter "Biff" Byford (* 15. January 1951 in Honley , West Yorkshire ) is an English Metal - singer and guitarist. He is the founder and front man of the heavy metal band Saxon .

History of Saxon

Biff founded the band Son of a Bitch in 1976 with Paul Quinn, Steve "Doobie" Dawson, Graham Oliver and Pete Gill , which was renamed Saxon in 1978. The first record deal followed in 1979. In the same year, the first, self-titled album Saxon came on the market.

The band has released 22 studio albums to date. In contrast to other British metal bands such as Black Sabbath , Iron Maiden , Judas Priest or Motörhead, it did not have any major chart successes, but is known for a large fan base and has headliner status at many festivals.

Biff Byford played in the band Blue Condition from 1970 to 1976 before Saxon.

In addition, Byford has made a number of guest appearances on albums by other artists in his career.

In 1990 he sang on the album Bad Bad Girls by the English band Fastway . In 1999 he spoke the track Tears of Taragon (Story Version) on the CD Taragon by the German band Freedom Call .

In 2005 he sang the song The Alliance of Hellhoundz on the album Inventor of Evil by the German band Destruction .

In 2007 and 2010 he helped the German power metal band Helloween with the albums. On Gambling with the Devil (2007) he spoke on the song Crack The Riddle , on the album 7 Sinners (2010) he spoke on Who Is Mr. Madman? .

In 2008 he sang on the album Fear No Evil by Doro Pesch in the song Celebrate .

With only a few songs, for example "Frozen Rainbow", he also shows that he has mastered the guitar (electric and acoustics).

In 2013 he took on the role of Reason on the album The Mystery of Time by Avantasia , the metal opera by German singer Tobias Sammet . He sang on three tracks ( Black Orchid , Savior in the Clockwork , The Great Mystery )

In 2014 he recorded a cover version of the song Starstruck with Motörhead for a Ronnie James Dio tribute album called This Is Your Life .
