Dorothee Pesch (* 3. June 1964 in Dusseldorf ), better known as Doro , is a German rock - singer . Known as the singer of the band Warlock , she successfully established herself as a solo artist in the mid-1990s. She is considered the Queen of Metal .

Career

After completing her training as a typographer , during which she struggled with pulmonary tuberculosis , the daughter of a transport company and truck driver sang for Snakebite and later for Attack (both Düsseldorf underground heavy metal bands) from the early 1980s she left at the end of 1982 to form the band Warlock in 1983 together with other musicians . Warlock recorded a total of four regular studio albums and became internationally known in the course of her career. In 1986 Doro was one of the first women to perform at the Monsters of Rock festival. The record company gave more and more direction to the band, which led to great frustration for Warlock. In 1988, with the exception of the bass player, all previous musicians left the band, and Doro put together a new group consisting of herself, Tommy Henriksen (bass), Jon Devin (guitars) and Bobby Rondinelli (drums). The album Force Majeure , released in 1989, appeared under the name Doro , but the cover of the first edition had a sticker that identified the record as a Warlock album.

In 1990 Pesch moved to New York. In the USA she recorded her first album under her own name in the same year.

The following album, True at Heart , was produced in 1991 by the renowned studio guitarist Dann Huff (including Giant ).

In 2003 Doro sang the Motörhead song Love me forever at one of their live concerts (20 years of Warlock) together with Lemmy Kilmister . She later sang another song (Alone Again) with Lemmy Kilmister.

In 2006 Doro Pesch contributed the title Deep in My Heart , which she had specially rewritten for this purpose, to the benefit CD for the Borussia Dortmund Club Museum and waived a fee for it. She also had a live appearance in the Westfalenstadion before a Borussia game. Pesch was also one of the first visitors to the Borusseum when it opened. Her father was a fan of Borussia, which she reported in an interview with the BVB press spokesman.

On December 13, 2008, she celebrated her 25th stage anniversary with a concert in front of 9,000 spectators, with Holy Moses , Leaves' Eyes and Arch Enemy appearing as supporting acts. The main part began with songs from Doro's solo career and duets with, among others, Bobby Ellsworth , Jean Beauvoir , Liv Kristine , Floor Jansen , Chris Boltendahl , Axel Rudi Pell , Klaus Meine , Rudolf Schenker , Tarja Turunen and Warrel Dane and ended with some Warlock reunions Pieces.

On the 2010 Doro Pesch DVD 25 Years in Rock , she sings the Scorpions song Rock you like a Hurricane together with Klaus Meine . Rudolf Schenker (Scorpions) plays one of the electric guitars.

On Motörhead's The Wörld Is Ours 2010 European tour , Doro and her band not only appeared in the opening act, they also sang the song Born to Raise Hell in a duet with Lemmy Kilmister during the actual concert . At her 30th stage anniversary at Wacken Open Air 2013, she interpreted the song All We Are with Sabaton , Uli Jon Roth , Eric Fish , Phil Campbell , Chris Boltendahl and the bagpipes from Corvus Corax . In 2017 she released her first purely German-language album, Forever .

In 2020 she appeared as the opening act for Saxon on the "40th Anniversary Castles & Eagles" tour in the Mitsubishi Electric Halle in Düsseldorf and sang the song "Denim and Leather" in the main concert in a duet with Biff Byford .

Doro is a vegetarian and posed for PeTA against wearing leather. She herself only wears artificial leather on stage and in private .

She is a longtime friend of boxer Regina Halmich and wrote four of her entry anthems: All We Are (a Warlock title from 1987) and the newer songs Fight , She's Like Thunder and The Queen .

On October 26, 2002, she got into the ring at RTL Promiboxen at short notice as a replacement for Samantha Fox . She competed against Michaela Schaffrath , who was coached by Regina Halmich, and lost with 85 to 86 points. In 2006 she made her cinema debut with the role of Meha in Luke Gasser's film Anuk - Der Weg des Kriegers .

Through several media articles in 2012 and 2013 it became known that Doro Pesch believes in the supernatural and rebirth / reincarnation , regression into previous lives and believes that he was a maid in Hungary in the Middle Ages ( picture 2012) or "died as a man in prison in a previous life "to be ( Metal Hammer 2013).
