Liv Kristine Espenæs , from 2003 to 2017 Liv Kristine Espenæs Krull , better known as Liv Kristine , is a singer born on February 14, 1976 in Stavanger , Norway . She became known with the Theater of Tragedy and subsequently appeared successfully as a guest singer in various groups and as a solo artist and singer in other bands such as Leaves' Eyes .

Life

Liv Kristine Espenæs Krull was born Liv Kristine Espenæs on February 14, 1976 in the Norwegian port city of Stavanger. She grew up in Stavanger. Her parents got her enthusiastic about music at an early age. She counted Madonna and Black Sabbath among her early influences . At the age of 10 she took part in her first band project. Her younger sister is Carmen Elise Espenæs , singer in the band Midnattsol . At the beginning of the 2000s Espenæs moved to Germany. On July 3, 2003, she married her long-time partner Alexander Krull , the singer of Atrocity . Their son Leon Alexander was born in December of the same year. In 2016, the couple, who were also closely linked in their musical collaboration, announced their professional and private separation.

Career

Theater of Tragedy

In 1993 Espenæs joined the band Theater of Tragedy . Originally engaged as a background singer , she later became an equal duet partner alongside vocalist Raymond. In 1994 Theater of Tragedy recorded their first demo tape and got a recording deal. Six months later, the debut album Theater of Tragedy was recorded with producer Dan Swanö and released in the summer of 1995. The contrast between dark male growling and clear female singing made Theater of Tragedy an early symbol of the “Beauty and Beast” phenomenon of the late 1990s. The follow-up work Velvet Darkness They Fear was published in 1996. In the following years the band released Aégis , Musique and Assembly .

In August 2003, Theater of Tragedy announced their split from Espenæs. Espenæs, who had previously moved to Germany, increasingly lost contact with the members of the Theater of Tragedy in the previous years and was informed of her departure by email in the year of the publication of Assembly. She herself named an unsteady band structure over several years as the main problem and the reason for a growing resentment in the group, which in her opinion led to her exclusion. The band members, however, stated to her that a radical cut was necessary to overcome an acute crisis.
