Leaves' Eyes is a German symphonic metal - band .

Band history

Leaves' Eyes was founded in the summer of 2003, before front woman Liv Kristine was fired from her former band Theater of Tragedy due to irreconcilable musical differences . The remaining band members come from Atrocity .

In 2004 the debut album Lovelorn was released , from which the single Into Your Light was decoupled with video. In the summer of the same year Leaves' Eyes and Atrocity played a joint tour in Germany. A year later, in May 2005, the second album Vinland Saga followed , which reached a position in the German album charts for the first time. In September the band toured with Paradise Lost in the United States, followed by several concerts in North America with God Dethroned , Nightrage , Atrocity and other bands in October . Also in October there was an appearance at the Metal Female Voices Fest 2005 in Wieze , Lebbeke in East Flanders before the band played as the opening act on the traditional Christmas tour of Subway to Sally in December 2005 .

In 2006, Legend Land was released, an EP that also made it into the German charts. Before that, the band played a spring European tour with Elis , and in winter Leaves' Eyes supported the Blind Guardian US tour . In between, Atrocity and Leaves' Eyes performed in April in Brazil and in September in Australia.

In the summer of 2007, Leaves' Eyes played again as opening act in the United States and Europe, this time for the American power metal band Kamelot . On October 20, 2007, a live DVD was recorded at the Metal Female Voices Fest in front of 3500 viewers and was released in February 2009. In November 2007 bassist Chris Lukhaup and drummer Moritz Neuner left Leaves' Eyes and Atrocity. In January 2008, Nick Barker was introduced as the new drummer for Leaves' Eyes and Atrocity. In August 2008 Leaves Eyes played at the Wacken Open Air. In 2010 Leaves' Eyes was back as the opening act for Kamelot on their European tour. Leaves' Eyes played again in 2010 at MFVF in Belgium. In spring 2011 Leaves' Eyes toured Germany with Tarja Turunen , and in April of the same year the new album Meredead was released .

On April 15, 2016, the band announced the split from Liv Kristine for personal reasons. Shortly afterwards Leaves Eyes presented the soprano and founder of the Finnish melodic metal band EnkElination , Elina Siirala , as successor.

style

Leaves' Eyes at Wacken Open Air 2018

The style of music is now and then reminiscent of the early Theater of Tragedy and is dominated by Elina Siirala's singing and growl passages by Alexander Krull. Typical songs are Elegy and Farewell Proud Men , whose lyrics tell of the life of the Vikings and the suffering of the wives left behind.
